THE ETHICAL SMART CITY PLAYBOOK

The Ethical Smart City (ESC) Playbook is a guide for communities to inspire and lead them through the ESC Transformation. The Playbook showcases insights gathered from interviewing Smart City Champions in Municipalities and initiatives to inspire interested communities to begin their transformation into Ethical Smart Cities. The heart of the Playbook is the ESC Framework – the five-step process and tools – which have been put together using information design principles to present our bold ideas in an approachable and engaging manner. Also included are case studies that showcase smart solutions that we consider ethical.

The book is divided into 3 sections and guides you through the ESC Concept and Framework. In the publication, we delve further into each step and output and provide a deeper explanation of when, how and why to use each of the tools in the custom ethical smart city toolkit.

THE ETHICAL SMART CITY TOOLKIT

We have created tools to facilitate the generative and evaluative outputs in each step of the Framework. They come with clear instructions and descriptions. These tools have been inspired by research on tools and have been customized to enhance and facilitate participation. By answering the questions listed in these tools, you and your community will be able to make headway and track the progress of your Ethical Smart City Transformation.
